Black and white ruffed lemurs communicate in a variety of ways. They mainly communicate with other black and white lemurs using smell. The lemurs also use many loud vocalizations to communicate.
Sounds
These handsome lemurs also create many noises. For example, they make a barking alarm call. This is the loudest call in the lemur family and they can be heard from 1 kilometer away! Black and white ruffed lemurs also have a wailing howl to defend their territory. These calls are usually heard form 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Black and white lemurs defend themselves with their scream.
